History - The town of Clackamas was named after the first inhabitants of the area, the Clackamas Indians. Its home is Clackamas County, Oregon, which was one of Oregon’s four original districts created by the Oregon Provisional Legislature on July, 5 1843. Although Clackamas has never been officially incorporated as a city, it has always had a distinct geography and identity. In the 1930’s Downtown Clackamas was built around Clackamas Elementary School, the Clackamas Congregational Church and the Old Fellows Lodge, which were all important centers of community life. As the community grew, the Clackamas Cemetery became the resting place of the local citizens. It became a tradition in the 1930’s for the students of Clackamas Grade School to march to the cemetery on Memorial Day to lay flowers on the graves.
About Clackamas - Since the cities creation, agriculture, timber, manufacturing, and commerce have been its primary economic activities. Although Clackamas, Oregon still remains unincorporated as a city, it has a bustling community, thanks largely to its large shopping mall, Clackamas Town Center.
