History - Gresham, Oregon was named after Walter Quinton Gresham who was an American Civil War General. The first post office in Gresham was established in May of 1884. Lewis Shattuck became the first mayor of Gresham when it was incorporated as a city in1905.
About Gresham - The city of Gresham, Oregon is governed by an elected mayor and city council who serve four year terms. Transportation is provided to Portland by the TriMet bus system and the MAX light rail line. Additionally, the Sandy Area Metro (SAM) travels east to Sandy, Oregon. Since 1981 Gresham has been home to the annual Mount Hood Jazz Festival. Also, each year during the Christmas season, the community holds a Spirit of the Season tree lighting and Golf Tournament. The citizens of Gresham work together, making their city a beautiful and safe place to live.
