History - In 1910, residents of Wilsonville, Oregon relied on cars, trains, ferries or steamboats for transportation. Most roads were dirt, sometimes they were made of gravel, and in rare instances they were planked. The very first schoolhouse in Wilsonville was built in 1876 and was called the Frog Pond School. In 1912 it was replaced by a larger two room school. This remained Wilsonville’s primary high school until the 1980’s and 1990’s when the increase in population required the opening of two middle schools and Wilsonville High School. In the early 1900’s the town was very tiny but possessed most of the essentials, including a general store, hardware business, a doctor, a train depot, and a farming community.
About Wilsonville - The town of Wilsonville, Oregon is located just 17 miles south of Portland, Oregon. The heart of Wilsonville is Town Center Park, which includes a large waterfall and pool, a basketball court, play structures and picnic tables. Wilsonville has a steadily growing economy thanks to some large and very influential corporations. The most profitable businesses include Xerox, Mentor Graphics, Hollywood Entertainment and Nike. Although known for its industry, Wilsonville is also looked at as the gateway to Oregon’s fabulous wine country, located further south. With its many acres of green parks and the Willamette River flowing through the town, Wilsonville remains a steadily growing city, while holding on to its small town charm.
